We asked, you answered: There’s a Need for Streamlined Testing

Avaap surveyed more than 100 Infor Lawson software users to gain insight into testing processes and the challenges customers face when applying patches or updating software. There were some clear trends among those responding, namely that manual testing is difficult, time-consuming and prone to human error. There’s often not enough time allocated for comprehensive testing, whether that’s due to limited resources, pressure to achieve the go-live date or other business demands. Even when planned and scheduled, businesses feel the strain on resources.

According to the survey Lawson software users typically spend more than 100 hours testing software during an upgrade, yet more than half feel testing is not thorough or accurate.    According to our reports, more than 45 Avaap customers use our Test Automation solution to help improve efficiency and effectiveness in software. Automated testing eliminates human error, supports more comprehensive testing, and considerably reduces the loss of money and time when systems don’t perform as expected.

The survey also revealed that addressing time and staffing requirements were the top challenges during the test phase. Of those surveyed, 65 percent needed to compress testing due to time constraint, impacting the ability to provide the necessary   support to users in large organizations that is required during the upgrade process. Additionally, more than 60% stated they had skipped some testing scenarios during a major upgrade in order to meet a go-live date.

Completing script-testing is a challenge at many organizations, with roughly one-third of respondents claiming issues at go-live because a test script was missed. One respondent noted that missing a test script resulted in a setback that took weeks to resolve. With Infor systems growing in size while headcount stays the same it is impossible for users to keep up their level of effectiveness when their workload increases.

Automated testing addresses many of these challenges while creating a more efficient process that substantially reduces the amount of time it takes for accurate, comprehensive system testing. Using an automated testing solution reduces manual effort, giving users back time to focus on other priorities.

As organizations upgrade technology and incorporate new solutions, the need for thorough testing is critical. With limited resources and pressure to deliver high performing software and modern functionality to business users, improving the testing process and reducing the amount time it takes offers significant advantage for organizations large and small.
