A Look Inside the Infor Retail Sales Kickoff

Avaap sponsored the recent Infor Retail Sales Kickoff where more than 100 Infor sales, strategy, and development professionals gathered for two days of critical discussion and action planning. The overarching theme of the conference was around the evolution of technology and the future of retail.

Technology is a disruptive force in many industries, but retail has remained relatively unchanged for the last two decades. A key question on attendees’ minds was why is retail software stuck in 1995?

One reason is that there hasn’t been a new, large-scale holistic platform introduced in the last twenty years. Infor’s Senior Vice President of Retail Corey Tollefson took to the stage to discuss the state of the industry and how most retailers still use technology developed in the mid-90’s to run their business. With the rise of mobile, digital and big data, it’s hard to fathom that companies are running multimillion dollar enterprises on legacy technology.

While technology has remained relatively unchanged over the last 25 years, the retail landscape has changed dramatically, along with consumer and worker expectations. Savvy shoppers now have instant access to product information, reviews, and price comparisons. There are more options and outlets than ever before and consumers expect personalized, targeted experienced that speak to their unique needs. Workers using consumer-grade technologies in their personal lives, expect better technology experiences with the same features and accessibility to applications when they are at work.

It’s time for change. Older solutions were built before mobile, social and omnichannel commerce. Retailers wanting to stay competitive can’t proceed with a “business as usual” mindset. Retailers should shift their focus to technology and modernizing the supply chain while paying attention to trends (Customization! Personal shoppers! Same day delivery! Drones!) and delivering outstanding customer experiences.

Infor is on a mission to deliver on the rising expectation of everyone who touches retail, fusing next generation technology with beautiful design, engaging experiences and the power of smart data and predictive analytics. By leveraging machine learning, cloud flexibility, holistic supply chain insights, and a beautiful interface that changes based on context, retailers can stay nimble and prepare for future evolution.

Avaap has deep Infor and industry expertise, bringing creative and collaborative solutions to retail customers. We’re working to expand capabilities to offer customers financial, supply chain, human resource and merchandising and planning solutions designed to work best for the future. Modern technology can help retailers achieve a more efficient, connected enterprise with greater visibility, flexibility and insight.

As the lines between physical and online retail blur, as consumers demand more customization and as retailers seek to drive sale of excess inventory, it’s time to forgo traditional approaches and start embracing some innovative concepts. Retailers not servicing the customer in the best manner possible won’t be able to survive the next generation of retail.
