A Look Back at Infor TechEd

Avaap Solution Architect Mike Smith spent two days in San Diego at Infor TechEd learning about upgrade and migration options, tooling, and methodologies available to existing Lawson customers wanting to adopt CloudSuite Financials & Supply Management and HCM global HR/Talent Management. With technology and functionality constantly evolving, hearing from Infor executives about upcoming initiatives provided a unique opportunity to discuss best practices for preparing data for migration and build upon previous Lawson knowledge to help our team and customers prepare for the future.

In addition to learning about the product roadmap and new features and functionality, Infor TechEd is a chance to meet and learn from the best Infor product and development experts and bring best practices to customer organizations that operate Infor solutions. We caught up with Mike after the event.

Tech Ed Look BackYou mentioned enjoying the panel discussions and keynotes on product strategy and functionality as well as meeting clients to learn how they do things. What topics resonated with attendees?

My focus was on the migration track and learning about the new methodologies and tooling available to migrate version 9 and version 10 S3 Lawson clients to V11 CloudSuite Financials, Supply Chain and HCM. There was great interest in the Infor Data Lakeand new ways for Infor CloudSuite customers to interact with their data and prepare it for migration. New visualization and user experiences are focused on making it easier to extract data from on premise data sources to allow organizations to unlock the true potential of its data.

Also interesting was learning about the Integration Architect for flat file and ION development. With IPA no longer required, this will make interfaces quicker and easier to develop.

What do you know now that you didn’t know prior to attending?

Prior to attending, my understanding of the migration tooling was that it was designed for those organizations that did not want to do any changes to their chart of accounts.  While the tools can be used for clients who want to migrate like-for-like components, the real value is in the significant transformation the methodology and tooling allows during the migration. There is significant flexibility with the tooling to map existing structures to new ones and allow customers take advantage of new software functionality in the most expedient manner possible.

How does your attending this technical training benefit Avaap clients?

There are many clients who will either not have the budget or need for a full functional reimplementation but still want to migrate to the current CloudSuite product and/or version.  Gaining knowledge and building relationships with the Infor product and development teams gives Avaap competitive advantage for the large number of version 9 and 10 clients looking to migrate to Infor CloudSuite.  As the largest Infor partner, we are committed to training and education and then using the knowledge and experience to execute successful projects for our clients.

We have invested in mastering Infor products to serve as a resource for customers who are interested in upgrading to CloudSuite Financials & Supply Management and CloudSuite HCM. Being on the forefront of this education and working with Infor on the migration tool will help to support successful migrations as existing Lawson customers adopt the next version and move to Infor CloudSuite.
