Fall in Love With What Your Infor ERP System Can Do

Fans of folk-rock musician Stephen Stills will want to hum along as we cover the importance of loving the one you’re with – and for today’s post, that’s everyone operating Infor version 10. With the season of love upon us, what better time to express some love for the on-premise Infor system that has served many organizations well over the years. Whether your move to the cloud is in sight or your organization is waiting until a decommission date is announced, there are options to drive more value from your existing investment while preparing your organization for the future. An ERP is the heart of your business, so it is important to keep it beating strong!

Like any long-term commitment, the ERP relationship can become less valuable over time, if it isn’t nurtured. Keeping up with new functionality, patch applications, new analytics trends, and uncovering opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and achieve business goals through business process assessments is paramount to keeping the love alive.

Here are some ideas to reinvigorate the relationship and ignite passion for your current Infor ERP while getting more value from the system.

Stay Up to Date

It’s easy to get behind on applying patches, especially if you rely on manual process and resources are focused on more pressing business demands. Falling behind can result in unstable systems and potential exposure to cyber security breaches. With limited time, planning, or resources, the challenge of staying current is immense, and falling behind can lead to user frustration and workarounds that increase the potential for error.

As with any successful relationship, make time for the things that matter. Create and commit to an annual or biannual patch and upgrade schedule, planned in a month that works well for all your departments. Our recommendation: choose a summer or fall month that is far enough from year-end but not too close to open enrollment, or select a non-payroll week during the first half of the year. Whichever schedule you choose, stick to it, and build your project plan backwards to ensure the team has plenty of time for testing and planning. Take the time to prepare for major release upgrades and ensure you have the required foundation technologies and functional pre-requisites (security, workflow, etc.).

Be a Smooth Operator

Paper approval processes are painful for all individuals involved: initiators, approvers, and the back office. With manual processes, standards are difficult to enforce and there is no visibility or tracking into any progress or actions that have been taken.

Take advantage of Infor Process Automation (IPA) and automate complex business processes to increase business efficiency and agility. The most common approval flows include requisitions, personnel actions, invoices, journal entries, job requisitions, contracts, and purchase orders. Even Cupid would love increasing efficiency and being free from repeatable manual tasks.

Leverage Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics

Establish a culture of analytics that leverages BI such as Infor Birst to get efficient access to data that is available to the appropriate personnel. Leveraging business intelligence can turn your ERP into a center of innovation and provide complete visibility into your business. It connects the system to the strategy and increases the ability for people to share, create, and collaborate.

The right BI and analytics platform can help your organization get data-based perspective for more informed decisions and true data visibility, delivering another reason to love your ERP.

In this on-demand session, Avaap Technology and BI Practice Director Massimo Emilione provides expert advice and practical examples of how Birst analytics and reporting can be used to provide and deliver greater insight for faster, more-informed decision-making inside Infor v10 or FSM.

If you’d love to be an organization that operates with efficiency and effectiveness, looking at your people, processes and technology can identify small steps that offer big wins. If a transformation is in your future, but you’re not sure when, Avaap offers Journey Mapping to help you decide the best path and timing to ensure your technology aligns with the business outcomes and resource availability you envision for your future.
