There are a lot of great things possible with Chart Search in Epic. I see physicians who do not realize that it is there, but the Chart Search functionality is very helpful, and getting smarter with every release.
What would I would like to tell new Epic users?
I would tell new Epic users to take advantage of the personalization options available in the system. Research has shown that physicians that personalize their EHR as much as they can really are happier, more efficient users of the electronic health record.
One way to personalize your EHR is to create smart phrases or dot(.) phrases for terminology that you use frequently in your day. This can be a huge time saver to save from typing the same phrases constantly. There is so much available to physicians in Epic that can shave anywhere from 10 to 20 seconds off tasks that you perform 50 to 60 times per day. While that may seem like only a few seconds of time savings, that time adds up on tasks you perform over and over again.
